Book Review: Inspired Mama by Sez Kristiansen

Every time you choose to let a challenge become an opportunity to separate yourself from mediocrity, you gain traction toward the fulfillment of your dreams”. – Sez Kristiansen in ‘Inspired Mama’.

Thank you TCK Publishing and the author, Sez Kristiansen for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Reading this book has been a huge inspiration and blessing. I loved every step of the journey and I see myself going back to it from time to time.

Sez, in a very relatable and practical way has used her life as a model to show mothers that they can achieve the balanced and fulfilled life that they desire. Reading this book at this particular point in my life is very timely since I am currently on a path leading towards self improvement and living my best life. It is packed with so much wisdom and knowledge that I may not be able to fully express how I feel about this book in one review. I found myself taking breaks to think through and analyze several points she made in the book or nodding in agreement at other times because I have experienced some of the emotions and challenges she spoke about.

“I wanted to be passionate about the way I earned an income. I wanted to create, every day. I didn’t want to be confined to a desk job where I had to do what I was told and contribute to someone else’s bottom line. I wanted to be inspired, challenged, and engaged with interesting people. Most of all, I wanted to be in a field of work that allowed me to grow spiritually”. – Sez Kristiansen in ‘Inspired Mama’.

As a wife and mother who works a full time job, I have sometimes struggled while wearing the different hats needed to play these diverse roles but a few years ago I decided to embrace who I have become and strive to enjoy my life while being true to myself. This book is one of the many things that will help me move closer to my dreams.

How to effectively practice mindfulness and living an intentional life in everything that I do are my biggest takeaways from this experience amongst many others and I am putting them into practice right away. This is the kind of book I wish I had read 10 years ago but I am still grateful that I still have the opportunity to keep learning and growing everyday to become a better version of me. There are so many quotes in this book I would love to share here that hit home on many levels but that may mean that I would literally write out about half of the entire book.

“I stopped trying to fit in. I stopped worrying about what people thought and started to redefine myself. I spent every waking moment learning what I needed to know to get where I wanted to be. I reconditioned my subconscious to believe I was capable of unimaginable things, and soon that became the driving force for my everyday routine. I used challenges as opportunities to separate myself from mediocrity. I applied this mindset to everything: my running, my emotions, my business plans. I became more authentically me than ever before, and I saw my superpowers were not in fact embedded in my university degree, my training certificates, or my résumé—but in my uniqueness, my originality, and my ability to do things differently”. – Sez Kristiansen in Inspired Mama.

I highly recommend this book to both young and older mothers. This book will totally change the way you see things and situations in your life. Go get a copy and thank me later.

“Self-care may feel paradoxical, but when you notice how much more you can help others after you’ve taken care of yourself, it becomes a fundamental daily practice. When you are happy and fulfilled, your family is, too. When you are driven by purpose and passion, when you
free yourself from your painful past, you emancipate your children”. -Sez Kristiansen in ‘Inspired Mama’.

“When former colleagues heard about my rebellion, their Scandinavian “feminism” said that I was being subdued into a domestic role that was unequal to my husband’s. It was funny to hear these statements, because I believe feminism is about equal worth, and not equality as in sameness. As I watched them become overstressed, overworked, and unbalanced but “equal” mothers, I signed with a publisher and returned from our travels with my dreams neatly folded into the seams of my soul”. -Sez Kristiansen in ‘Inspired Mama’.
